Squatting 101: Learning Safe Techniques
Sept. 9, 1-2 p.m.
An instructional session for the barbell back-squat along with variations and the criteria used to determine a safe and efficient squat. This session will provide guidance on how to strengthen your squat while maintaining biomechanical efficiency.
Learn the Rig
Sept. 16, 1-2 p.m.
An educational introduction to the different ways in which you can utilize the functional fitness rig in the Sumers Fitness Center to strengthen and condition your body in a safe and effective manner.
Deadlift 101: Picking Up Things Properly
Oct. 14, 1-2 p.m.
This session will provide guidance and universal principles on how to set-up and execute a proper deadlift - the most functional strength exercise. This instruction will act as a guide to protect your back when you pick things up from the floor whether it?s in the gym or around the house. This session will also include different pulling variations that supplement deadlift strength.
Pushes and Pulls: Upper Body Balance
Nov. 11, 1-2 p.m.
An introduction to upper body strength training. This clinic will touch on the most efficient and profound ways to gain upper body strength while limiting strength imbalances. This clinic will focus on bench press, overhead press, chin-ups (and modifications) and rowing variations.
Running Tutorial: Race Planning & Gait Analysis
Dec. 9, 1-2 p.m.
This session is an opportunity to determine your running fitness as well as learn race planning strategies. A certified personal trainer and experienced runner will be leading this class to give feedback on running technique and provide insight into race planning and race-day strategies. This class can especially help those looking to start a running program and who want guidance on how to begin and how to progress. All runners are welcome.
